Global Lighthouse Studios: Connecting Classrooms Around the World

My name is Donna Guerin and I have been a classroom educator for 22 years. A few months ago, I decided to follow my dream and create an online educational platform dedicated to connecting teachers and students around the world. My platform is rooted in empathy and powered by the students. We concentrate on the Sustainable Development Goals, Nature and the Planet. We also have a student empowerment group, founded by my son Jake (he is 11 years old) called Young Changemakers International. Bringing teachers and students together to help people and the planet is something I am extremely passionate about. One of the projects that Young Changemakers is working on is building a dream school for students who live in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Jake has been sharing his message around the world to have students help design their future school.

At Global Lighthouse Studios, we integrate the arts and music into the curriculum and encourage students to be a part of their own learning journey. This fall we have several global projects going on across 6 continents. We have 2 literacy units, one for classrooms K-3 and another for classrooms 4-12, with over 34 classrooms participating. We also have a unit called Facing Tomorrow, which is a series and the focus for the fall is Food Security. Finally, we have a program that we are partnering with Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation called, Journey to the Heart of the Blues. Looking at the history of blues music, it's influence on music today, and how we can connect people from different cultures through the universal language of music.

Being a global educator has been such a wonderful experience. Getting to connect with fantastic educators from around the world, and work with students from different cultures has been an educational journey to remember. My dream for the future is to connect classrooms around the world and empower students to create the future they want.
